Fit King Boots Review

What are they?

As the name suggests, these are full-leg compression boots. They offer a convenient way to massage your legs at home, without the need for a masseuse.

The Fit King blurb explains that these boots offer ‘all the recovery benefits of a 15-minute massage in just two minutes‘, which sounded good to me. That’s because any time I seem to run, squat or deadlift, I can feel sore for days, and massages usually help.

The boots come in two styles. One is for home use, while the other is portable (I assume the latter is useful for post-competition or for hotel rooms). As I mainly work out at home and in a nearby gym, I went for the home-use boots.

The boots also come in three size options: small, medium and large. While I’d like to convince myself I have large herculean legs, I don’t… so I opted for medium.

What do they look like?

Let’s face it: compression boots aren’t the most fashionable things you can wear. They make your legs look like long marshmallows.

However, these Fit King boots are simple and stealthy, with an all-black design, plus a little blue and white detailing.

What features can you expect?

In addition to the boots and control console, you get a user manual and quick-start guide, power adapter, and a storage bag.

Starting with the boots and these are easy to get in and out of thanks to a full-length zip, which feels nice and robust.

Each boot is its own individual sleeve and will fit either leg. They feel a little loose when you first wear them, but naturally they become more snug when the compression starts.

The control console is where the magic happens. This generates the compression and allows you to alter the boots to fit your exact needs.

For example, you can choose the time (increments of five minutes, from 15 to 60 minutes) and the intensity in 12 levels (from 40 mmHg right up to a beastly 150 mmHg). I didn’t make it past 120Hg!

You can even select the area of the leg you’d prefer to target (foot, lower calf, upper calf, thigh) or go for a full leg experience.

Are they easy to use?

I did my usual ‘open the box and try them out without reading the manual’ test and everything was quite intuitive.

You slip a boot onto each leg, plug in the control panel, connect the boots to the control panel, then press start.

The control panel has a range of options for altering the time, intensity and focus of the boots. However, I used the pre-set configuration, which is a great starting point (this is a 30 minute, full-leg massage at a medium intensity of 60 mmHg).

Are they any good?

I was pleasantly surprised. Truth be told, I had always assumed compression boots were something of a gimmick – but a smile crept onto my face after a few seconds of using these. It’s a lovely feeling.

After around 30 minutes use, my legs felt quite soothed. I’m not sure the science behind it, but it increases the circulation in your legs, potentially reducing muscle soreness and swelling. Essentially, they help boost recovery and decrease pain.

It’s also good to note that these are pretty quiet when in action. While you may use them in a gym, I used them while watching a movie and I could hear my TV well. This makes them good for relaxing in the evenings, whether you’ve been training or not.

Are they good value?

To buy these boots, it will cost you around £300 to £500, depending on where you buy them. Naturally it’s worth shopping around, but buying them directly from the Fit King website appears to offer the best value at around $409, which is around £308. (Prices correct at the time of writing).

If you consider that a deep-tissue massage from a qualified masseuse costs around £50, then these compression boots will pay for themselves after a week or two. It’s therefore accurate to describe them as good value.

The Final Verdict

It’s difficult not to like these boots. They are easy to use, relatively quiet, and offer intense compression exactly where you need it.

There are cheaper boots on the market, but these strike a good balance between quality, features and affordability.

If you’re an athlete, weekend warrior, or simply enjoy having your legs rubbed, these compression boots from Fit King should at the very least make your shopping shortlist.
